Chiming Clock Movements
All of our Westminster chime movements, except the two recordable chime movements, feature a full "4 x 4" chime pattern. This means that they play a partial melody every 15 minutes with a full melody and an hour count on the hour. This is the chime pattern found in a traditional grandfather clock. The two recordable chime movements play the Westminster chime melody on the hour with an hour count as well as having the recording feature.
These are all battery operated quartz movements. This means that any model with a pendulum can be operated without the pendulum. This also means that there are different limits as to how long the pendulum on each model can be. If you need to have a pendulum whose length is over 23", then you need to use a separate drive mechanism for the pendulum. Our #PHDPD, the heavy-duty pendulum drive can be found in the pendulum movements section.
All of these movements produce their sound electronically. The sound quality will vary with the price and the way the movement and speaker is mounted in your case. For the best sound, use a movement with a remote or removable speaker. Make sure that the speaker is securely mounted to the case and the speaker is "vented" or placed in a position that will allow the sound to escape.
